Raising Canes to Open 2-Story Location on Las Vegas Strip

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Fried chicken lovers, rejoice! Raising Canes is set to open a two-story location on the Las Vegas Strip on Tuesday.

According to a news release, the new location will mark the eatery’s first-ever two-story location.

It will be located on the Las Vegas Strip at the Showcase Mall, 3791 S. Las Vegas Boulevard.

Raising Canes says that exclusive Cane’s retail apparel and merchandise will also be available at the Strip location.

“In true Vegas style,” Cane’s says the eatery will be open late, with the new restaurant to be open daily from 9 a.m. until 3:30 a.m.

“I grew up in Vegas and am a proud UNLV Rebel, so I couldn’t be more excited to introduce Raising Cane’s new flagship Restaurant to my hometown,” said Las Vegas Leader of Restaurants David Montenegro. “There’s nowhere else like the Vegas Strip, so we’re going all out to serve locals and visitors from around the world at the most electrifying Cane’s you’ll ever see!”

The Las Vegas Strip location will serve dine-in customers and through its mobile app and takeout. Cane’s says the new eatery will mark the 14th Raising Canes in Las Vegas.

To celebrate the grand opening on Tuesday, Raising Cane’s will host a “Lucky 21″ drawing to award 21 customers ages 13 and older free Cane’s for a Year. Cane’s says it will will accept entries between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Winners will be contacted the following day and do not have to be present to win.

Additionally, the first 100 dine-in customers to order a combo meal will also receive a commemorative Cane’s t-shirt, the restaurant said.

European Chain PureGym Launches First Club in United States

PureGym Group, a European fitness and gym operator, is opening its first gym in the United States under a new brand, Pure Fitness, the company announced on Jan. 6.

The first location, which is a 15,000-square-foot facility in Tysons Corner, Virginia, opened on Jan. 6. A 22,000-square-foot club will open Jan. 13 in Elkridge, Maryland, and a 27,000-square-foot location will open Jan. 27 in Springfield, Virginia, with additional sites planned across the United States, possibly organically as well as through franchising, the company said.

“We are excited to be entering the U.S. fitness market where we believe our model — no contract, high quality and affordable fitness — is not well represented,” Humphrey Cobbold, CEO of PureGym Group, said in a media release. “No other operator provides the same unique offer of a boutique gym experience at a budget gym price. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, more people than ever are focused on their health and are looking for greater flexibility and value, which presents a huge opportunity for us to welcome both keen gym-goers and beginners to Pure Fitness.”

Founded in 2009 in the United Kingdom, PureGym Group offers low-priced gym memberships with no contractual commitment. It has 500 clubs in the United Kingdom. It also has 40 sites in Switzerland, 180 sites in Denmark and one location in Saudi Arabia with more planned through franchising. 

In January 2020, the company acquired Fitness World, which had clubs in Denmark and owned Basefit in Switzerland.

The new brand will “disrupt the U.S. market” in several ways, according to the announcement. Pure Fitness offers memberships that start at $9.99 per month without any contractual commitment. Members can freeze, leave and re-join whenever they want in a matter of minutes through the Pure Fitness app. Through its app, members can choose the best time to visit the gym, provide contactless entry with a QR scanner and access a library of more than 400 on-demand workouts. Each Pure Fitness gym will have more than 150 pieces of cardio and strength equipment, a Turf Training Freestyle area and more than 80 digital and instructor-led classes per week.

Short Hills Mall Welcomes Jewelry Store Blue Nile

Blue Nile is a fine jewelry and diamond engagement ring brand, and its opening at the Short Hills Mall marks its first showroom in New Jersey. The launch of the store was originally set for Sept. 24, but was officially pushed to Oct. 8.

Blue Nile has more than 20 years of experience in the e-commerce space, as it was founded in 1999 and is based in Seattle, Washington. The showroom allows customers to look, touch and try on an assortment of jewelry and engagement rings.

Once customers make their purchase online, their order will be sent to the showroom, or shipped directly to them, free of charge. Personal jewelers are also available to clean or repair jewelry.

Guests are encouraged to book an appointment prior to visiting. Walk-ins are also welcome, but availability is not guaranteed. Masks are required in Blue Nile showrooms nationwide.

Multimillion-Dollar BrewDog Project Is on Track for a Debut on the Las Vegas Strip

Recently filed permits confirm Scotland-born BrewDog’s wildly ambitious plans are on track for Las Vegas Boulevard, creating a huge, 30,000-square-foot rooftop complex, with enviable views of the Strip. The brewery and pub will sit above the still under construction Olive Garden and a Target retail store, taking over the roof space on the northern section of the Showcase Mall and facing the Park MGM.

Paperwork reveals BrewDog allocated $2,648,400 in construction costs alone to create a restaurant, bar spaces, retail area, microbrewery, pool deck, and new mezzanines, descriptions matching the dramatic rendering released earlier this year. Co-founder James Watt has shared the Las Vegas location will also host an urban forest, secret event space, retro game zone, and a beer museum; the brewpub produces its own ales and lagers and plans to expand its empire to more than 40 international venues.

Multimillion-Dollar Olive Garden Back on Target for the Las Vegas Strip

First revealed back in August, but showing few signs of progress atop the Las Vegas Strip’s first Target retail outlet, new paperwork uncovers Olive Garden is back on track to bring its eighth local restaurant to Las Vegas Boulevard.

Taking over the currently vacant space 300, the restaurant will cover a substantial 12,564 square feet and host a maximum occupancy of 413 inside. Featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and views of the Park MGM resort across the street, details of accessing the third-floor venue have not been released.

Yet to be unveiled by its parent company, or the Showcase Mall’s landlords Gindi Capital, the interior remodel has been assigned an estimated construction budget of $3,750,000. Contractor JM Stitt Construction has worked on recent Olive Garden launches in California, plus earlier remodels of Kona Grillat Town Square and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse in Summerlin.

One of a handful of nationally recognizable dining brands yet to make a home on the Strip, the ubiquitous chain is known for its “Tour of Italy” plates, “Never Ending Pasta Bowl” meal deals, unlimited soup, salads, and breadsticks and a lengthy, casual Italian-inspired menu. The first local Olive Garden debuted in 2008, and remains open on Sunset Road in Henderson.

Current owner Darden Restaurants also operates the Capital Grille at the Fashion Show mall, Yard House on the Linq Promenade, Town Square, and Red Rock Resort, and Bahama Breeze at the Hughes Center.

The North Face Relocating Soho Store to Much Bigger Digs on Broadway

Outdoor sports apparel giant The North Face has signed a lease for 13,000 square feet at 584-588 Broadway, the current home of Express clothing store, Commercial Observer has learned.The deal, signed last week, includes about 7,000 square feet on the ground floor and 6,000 below grade, sources with knowledge of the deal told CO. The lease is for 10 years and the taking rent was about $200 on the ground and $50 for the basement space.

The North Face will relocate its store at 139 Wooster Street,where it has about 4,000 square feet on the ground and some basement space, to Olmstead Properties’ 584-588 Broadway, a 12-story, 226,000-square-foot office building between Houston and Prince Streets. Express’ lease expires on Jan. 31 and The North Face will take possession of the space in March, the sources said.

Steven Marvin of Olmstead Properties represented the landlord in-house in the transaction, and JLL‘s Michael Hirschfeld, Matt Ogle and Brian Hirschfeld represented North Face. Marvin and Michael Hirschfeld didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Target Opening Las Vegas Strip Store at Showcase Mall

Big-box retailer Target has its sights set on the Las Vegas Strip.

It plans to open a scaled-down, 20,000-square-foot store at the Showcase Mall near the MGM Grand on Las Vegas Boulevard.

“With more than 42 million people visiting Las Vegas each year, Target is designing this store with the unique needs of business travelers, tourists and nearby residents in mind,” said Mark Schindele, senior vice president, Target properties.

“Our Las Vegas Showcase store will offer convenience and inspiration for pedestrians on the Strip, as well as surface parking to make shopping even easier,” he said.

The store is set to open in 2020 and is expected to employ 150 people.

Target is opening small-format stores in areas where a full-size store may not fit, such as in urban areas, dense suburban neighborhoods and near college campuses.

The Strip store will carry quick-trip shopping items including beauty products, tourist merchandise, apparel and grab-and-go food and drinks.

Vornado brings in acclaimed London restaurant to former Le Cirque venue

Vornado Realty Trust has inked a deal with the group behind one of London’s hottest restaurants to open a dining concept in the former Le Cirque space at 731 Lexington.

Aqua Restaurant Group, a London-based firm with 25 eateries in Hong Kong, Beijing and London will move into the 18,750-square-foot space with a pricey Chinese restaurant by the end of the year, according to the New York Post. The restaurant will be modeled after Hutong, which occupies the 33rd floor of the Shard tower in London.

The former Le Cirque, a famed celebrity hot spot, closed last year. The new restaurant will feature an entrance off the cobblestone court yard from East 58th Street, a space shared by the Bloomberg Tower, and luxury condos at One Beacon Court.

Aqua was represented by Michael Hirschfeld, Brian Hirschfeld, Paul Berkman and Davie Berke of JLL in the lease deal. Vornado’s chairman, Steve Roth is said to have been personally involved in the negotiations, according to the Post. The deal was signed discreetly last year.

Hot UK restaurant to open in ex-Le Cirque space

A celebrated restaurant with northern Chinese cuisine that gets raves at The Shard in London will be opening in the former Le Cirque space, The Post has learned.

The London-based Aqua Restaurant Group quietly signed a lease at the end of last year with Vornado Realty Trust for an 18,750-square-foot spot in which to install its Hutong concept eatery.

When it opens at the end of this year or in early 2019, the restaurant will have an entrance from the spacious cobblestone courtyard off East 58th Street, where both the Bloomberg Tower at 731 Lexington Ave. and the One Beacon luxury condominium also have lobbies.

Michael Hirschfeld, Brian Hirschfeld, Paul Berkman and Davie Berke of JLL represented the restaurant group.

Steve Roth, Vornado’s chairman, worked closely with Aqua’s David Yeo and his partner, Richard Ward, on every aspect of the deal and architecture for its very first North American restaurant.

Aqua was founded 15 years ago and now has 25 venues across Hong Kong, London and Beijing.

The advent of the restaurant was revealed but went unnoticed during a Vornado conference call that merely mentioned it achieved higher rents.

The Top 10 NYC Retail Leases in May

May’s top 10 retail leasing deals were just over half of April’s in terms of square footage.

The 10 biggest retail lease deals signed last month totaled just over 165,000 square feet, down 145,000 square feet from April’s total of over 310,000 square feet. The largest retail lease in April was inked in Hell’s Kitchen.

Tempur-Pedic signs Westport lease

Specialty mattress chain Tempur-Pedic has signed a lease at 188 Post Road West in Westport, according to RHYS Commercial.

The 2,689-square-foot ground floor space includes 339 square feet of mezzanine space.
The freestanding building also has 18 parking spaces on the corner of Post Road West & Kings Highway.

Las Vegas Sees Retail Boom

LAS VEGAS — It doesn’t take long to realize how big shopping has become in this desert destination that casino gambling once ruled.

Digital signs inside the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace urge visitors to “Shop as the Romans Do” along a 675,000-square-foot path with a Roman streetscape and talking statues. A model for experiential retailing.

About 29 million people visited the Forum Shops, which marked its 25th anniversary in May, while 42.9 million visited Las Vegas last year. That means one out of every two checked out Forum Shops.

Retail and nongaming attractions — along with Vegas shows, 149,000 hotel rooms, and top restaurants and bars — brought in more than $11.2 billion in revenue last year, double the $5.2 billion that table games and slot machines generated.

The appetite for retail is evident up and down the Strip.

MGM Resorts International executives have held discussions to replace the 22 million-gallon Bellagio Fountains with a boutique shopping and restaurant promenade, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported last month.

In 2014, Treasure Island Hotel & Casino drained a lagoon that was used to stage a pirate show in front of the property to convert it into retail, and, in 2015, Bally’s converted a garden into an outdoor mall, the Grand Bazaar Shops, a short walk from Caesars Palace.

The tables turned in 1999, when retail and other nongaming revenue collectively surpassed casino gambling for the first time. The gap has kept growing.

“Retail operations provide greater options for tourist spending and are a natural evolution for a destination like Las Vegas,” said Brent Pirosch, director of gaming consulting for commercial real estate firm CBRE Inc., which is based here. “While gaming has been fairly flat for years, nongaming attractions jack up revenue and profits, and changing them is a cost-effective way to refresh a property.”

In 2000, the average trip expenditure for shopping was $94. By 2016, it was $156.91, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

Las Vegas’ retail dwarfs that of Atlantic City, N.J., by virtue of its sheer size, said Deutsche Bank gaming analyst Andrew Zarnett. “There are so many more rooms in Las Vegas, and the average visit to Las Vegas is so much longer,” he said. “Given Atlantic City is primarily a day-tripper market, its ability to emulate on the retail front with Las Vegas is extremely difficult.”

Retail is so hot along the Strip that it is common to find multiple locations of the same brand.

Mike Mixer, executive managing director in Colliers International’s Las Vegas office, said there have been at least three $1 billion-plus sales transactions in the last 12 months for mall properties on the Strip: Crystals at CityCenter, Fashion Show Mall and the Miracle Mile Shops at the Planet Hollywood resort.

“Both high-end luxury and discount retailers are enjoying success,” Mixer said.

Real estate firm JLL highlighted a pair of casino mall projects at the International Council of Shopping Center’s RECon convention here last month. One of them is the Showcase Mall, which sits on the Strip just north of the MGM Grand Hotel with its recognizable 100-foot-tall Coca Cola bottle and giant M&Ms that front the property.

American Eagle Outfitters, Adidas and T-Mobile are all building flagship stores at the mall, as is DSW. Skechers recently opened. Gone will be the tourist shop Grand Canyon Experience and La Salsa restaurant.

“Vegas is evolving, and retail is evolving,” said Michael Hirschfeld, co-leader of JLL’s National Retail Tenant Services, as he led a tour of Showcase Mall in 98-degree weather recently. “The brands now want to be here because the people are here, and based on the stats, they’re here shopping.”
